Ling Qi is the Chinese set of characters. Which look like the Japanese kanji.
灵气 is the modern character set and definition - spiritual influence (of mountains etc), cleverness, ingeniousness.
靈氣 - is the traditional character set. Reiki is a Japanese term.
【霊】 means something mysterious, miraculous, and sacred.
【気】 means the atmosphere or something unseen or the energy of the universe.
The Japanese call these characters Kanji and the ones displayed here are the modern type.
Personally, I prefer the traditional version: 靈氣 So you may be asking - What does it mean?
Depending on who you talk to, these two words have been described in many ways and it can be confusing because there are many definitions.
- The mysterious side - Universal Life Force Energy.
- The scientific side - bioenergetic system of stress relief
- Or a more preferable term - a light touch or no-touch Japanese Healing Art [靈] Rei (pronounced Ray)
[氣] Ki (pronounced Key) Healing - humm... this one is tricky too.
If a Reiki practitioner says they heal people, we are practising Medicine without a licence. Please don't do this, unless you are a certified with a medical board. Technically speaking Reiki practitioners support their client's (people and pets)" body’s innate or natural healing abilities". (http://nccam.nih.gov/health/reiki/introduction.htm assessed Aug 2013) Art - is defined as a human creative skill, aptitude or knack. To put it all together: Science hasn't truly discovered how Reiki works and that also makes it hard to describe, because it doesn't fit in a nice little box. Therefore, we have this hands-on skill that can support a client's natural abilities to have optimal health.
